Goals and Objectives
Rotation Goals (PM I and II):
1. Define your future career goals in Family Medicine. (aka what kind of job do you want to do after graduation?)
2. Become familiar with the ABFM website and the 4 components of Family Medicine Certification. (finding your log in and password is half the battle!)
3. Meet the ABFM certification requirements to sit for Family Medicine Board Examination.
4. Refine and update your CV.
5. Explore diverse Family Medicine practice sites.
6. Implement clinical risk management strategies to improve patient safety and reduce risk of malpractice. (aka don't get sued)
7. Get adequate reimbursement for patient care services (aka how to bill and code so you can get paid for your work).
Mandatory Activities: must accomplish ALL on this list over 2 blocks of PM Rotation
Become familiar with a practice model/site that is DIFFERENT than the one you plan to work in after graduation.

Meet with Dr. Krishna Desai prior at the start of your rotation
discuss plans for #1 above, personal goals and objectives, and create plan for your rotation
Submit CV to Dr. Krishna Desai for review and feedback
you can also review your CV with Drs. Mayers and Liggett during this rotation to get different perspectives as well as using CV to guide discussions surrounding career goals.

Risk management reading assignments: send a email on your reflections and how you might change your practice to mitigate risk at the personal and practice level after reading the articles below:
NEJM article: What is Risk Management in Health Care? Be able to answer the following questions after reading the article (can include in your reflection email)
list strategies you can employ at a personal level to mitigate risk.
list some processes that currently exist at your local institution (Farrell and Allen hospitals being main locations of practice)
Review the sample risk management plan linked in the article
How many individuals are dying each year as a result of medical error (based on a very old report from 1997)?

you are encouraged to refer patients to IMCC during time you will be rotating so we can provide consultation for your continuity patient (IMCC Is booked far out but we can try to accommodate your patient if we have some notice; call them if we have no shows etc)
Scribe notes during visit unless you are leading a visit (can discuss with Drs. Desai and Pilipenko if interested in leading session) so visit counts towards visit number.

include references at end of your note to support the interventions we use for each patient (to become familiar with evidence based available for integrative therapies and to support our team's medical decision making)
